Welcome to my website! I'm 18 now, and I am happy to say that I've accomplished my one dream that I've worked for my whole entire life for (my mom laughs when i say that, considering I'm "sooo young"). I competed at the 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES, in London, England.
My training began in my nursery. Climbing out of cribs, scaling the room from dresser, to window sill, to changing tables. You name it, i climbed it! Working my way up to my first shot at the real deal. My first taste of gymnastics was when i was 18 months old, at a mommies and me class. She describes it as less "mommies," more "ME, ME, ME!" At the age of four i was starting to burn out, class started at 3pm, that would only mean one thing, NO NAPS! My mom only had to keep me awake for 8 minutes, as she drove me to the gym, and more often than not, she failed! I'd fall asleep every time, only to be rudely awaken to to my mom's voice saying "time to wake up honey? It's time for gym!" With a cry so shrieking it could break glass, it wasn't long before the decision for my early retirement from the sport of gymnastics, was implemented. I remember the day vividly, fatigue had set in, as i watched my fellow team mates sit obediently in the form of a circle. It was then my duty to complete the circle, and that was NOT happening, NOT TODAY… My team mates begged, my coach pleaded, "McKayla, would you please join us for our circle stretch so we can start our training."
I could not, i would not… For the first time in my entire life i needed to stand up for something that i believed in. Or in this case not budge. And from that moment on everything else is a blur, i remember screaming, running, jumping, and dodging, anything and everyone in my way. I was chased around the gym by my coaches and my mother. Sadly, I was caught, trapped tight, and turned into a pretzel, by the arms of the same woman who raised me! It was 6 months before I saw the light of the gym again. I had finally convinced my parents that I was "mature enough" to go back. From that moment on, I've loved the sport with all my heart, and I haven't stopped since. The rest is history! (but really, check out my HISTORY.)
